Adobe Systems prepares Open Screen The company Adobe Systems has announced the opening of a new project called Open Screen, the main goal of which is to promote the Flash technology on the market of mobile devices and consumer electronics.
The company Adobe points out that Flash technology is now used to transfer via the internet video, audio, vector graphics, interactive and other materials. According to Adobe, Flash-player is installed on 98% of all desktop computers connected to the Internet.
However, in the mobile field Flash technology is spread not so widely, partially because of the need to pay licensing royalties. The project Open Screen is precisely designed to remove key restrictions on work with Flash.
As part of the new initiative the company Adobe promised to remove all restrictions on the use of specifications of SWF FLV/F4V. In addition, Adobe published information about some of the protocols, and proposed specialized program interfaces to port Flash-players. Finally, Adobe revokes license costs for the use of Flash-player and AIR environment.
It is expected that the initiative of Open Screen will provide third-party developers and manufacturers with greater freedom in creating Flash-applications and posting content for different hardware platforms, including cell phones, mobile Internet devices, television consoles, etc.
Adobe expects that to the beginning of next year, Flash technology will be supported by more than a billion portable devices.
Adobe Open Screen has already got the support of such companies as ARM, Chunghwa Telecom, Cisco, Intel, LG Electronics, Marvell, Motorola, Nokia, NTT DoCoMo, Qualcomm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba and Verizon Wireless.
