BitDefender warns Yahoo users about new threat
24th May 2007
Virus analysts of BitDefender warned Yahoo users about the spreading of a new phishing attack. Yahoo users receive a link, which allegedly contains photographs. The message comes from the user's account, contained in the victim`s list of friends. When going to the link users are offered to enter their personal data, and as soon as that happens, all of their personal information is sent to the Gmail address. The script program is likely to continue sending a link to all users of the contact list of an infected account.
The trick is that the attacker uses free access to Yahoo GeoCities hosting to collect addresses. This is a case where the hospitality goes too far, report analysts of BitDefender.
The respective department of Yahoo was informed on time, and, as a result, free access to the site was immediately closed.
