Blender 2.44: new version of the free 3D-editor

A new version of the free 3D-graphics editor with open code has been released. The program has all the tools that are used in professional 3D- editors, thus, using Blender, one gets an idea of 3D basis and understand the principle of operation of such programs.
Blender 2.44 was originally in tended as an interim release, which focuses on detecting errors and checking the stability of work, but some innovations are presented in it as well. In particular, there is support of 64- bit systems, support of subsurface scattering effect (SSS), improved mesh-primitives, two new modifiers - Smooth and Cast. The program runs under Windows, Linux, Irix, Sun Solaris, FreeBSD and Mac OS X.
