LiveJournal and TypePad were down because of DoS- attack
5th May 2006
During the night 2 on 3 May for the eight hours more than 10 million online diaries on resources LiveJournal and TypePad became inaccessible . This occurred because of the attack by the criminals of the servers of company Six Apart, which manages these popular blog- services, reports CNET News. With DoS- attack (denial of service) of server to the target server there are sent the numerous requests, accomplished by the network of the so-called zombie computers . As a result the server does not manage the enormous amount of information and rejects to attend users. Vice President of Six Apart Anil Desh stated that the company has the guesses about the motives owned by criminals; however, it did not wish to share details with the community. Six Apart It plans to grant to bloggers compensation for the interference of resource. However, how damage will be compensated, until is not solved. Possibly, the owners of blogs will obtain the possibility to independently select the form of compensation. During January of past year for users of Live Journal it already was necessary to be moved emotionally - online diaries were inaccessible in twenty-four hours. Then the reason for downtime was sudden massive turning off of energy, even the reserve power sources failed. For the support team it was possible to restore the collapsed data bases, although the records in blogs, made directly before the failure of resource, were lost forever.
