19th May 2007
The Media Rights Technologies Company (MRT) has recently sent letters to Microsoft, Adobe, Real Networks and Apple, saying that the abovementioned companies violate the rules of applicable in the United States law of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
In these text messages of MRT it is stated that Microsoft, Adobe, Real Networks and Apple controls about 98% of the market software mediaplayers used by the major companies - CNN, NPR, Clear Channel, MySpace, Yahoo, YouTube and others. They blame Microsoft, Adobe, Real Networks and Apple for the lack of reliable mechanisms for protecting content from being copied in players reproducing audio and video. The MRT are convinced that companies should immediately equip their products with means of DRM, in particular, developed by MRT system X1 SeCure Recording Control.
MRT threatens largest players of IT-market with court actions, the result of the latter can be punitive sanctions ranging from 200 to 2500 dollars per each unprotected copy of a program`s player. It is noticeable that MRT`s officials explain their claims by the case of DMCA according to which rejection of the use of the existing effective means of protecting content from being copied cab be considered as a violation of this law. In fact, the company threatens the developers with court actions if they do not agree to apply developed by MRT system of DRM-protection.
These messages were preceded by the press-release on the same topic, which took place a few weeks ago.
