PC Tools: Windows Vista is more sensitive to malware, than Win2000
27th May 2008
PC Tools conducted a comparative analysis of the safety of operating systems of the latest versions of Windows and came to the conclusion that Windows Vista is better protected compared to Windows XP, but worse in this regard, that Windows 2000.
According to InformationWeek, the conclusions made by PC Tools, are based on statistical information collected by security management system ThreatFire from 1.4 million personal computers. According to PC Tools, in 639 cases out of 100, machines under Windows Vista are infected by various viruses, spyware modules, Trojans, etc. For Windows 2000 the figure is 586, for Windows 2003 - 478, and for Windows XP - 1021 cases.
Thus, according to results of the analysis of PC Tools, it turns out, that eight-year-old OS Windows 2000 is less susceptible to malware than Windows Vista, which is called the most secure platform ever released by the software giant. According to PC Tools, some unwanted software components are available in 64% of machines under Windows Vista.
Microsoft, however, do not agree with the results of PC Tools. Recently, Microsoft has published another report Security Intelligence Report (SIR) on the security throughout the World Wide Web. During the second half of 2007 the utility of Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT), installed in about 400 million PC, detected malware on one of 123 checked computers.
