Phoenix Freeze: protecting your laptop by means of Bluetooth
25th May 2009
Company Phoenix Technologies announced their new software that will enable owners of mobile phones with Bluetooth to use their xcell phones to protect Windows-laptops against unauthorized access.
The program of Phoenix Freeze automatically blocks access to a laptop computer running under Windows Vista or XP when you move away a Bluetooth-device at a given distance from it. If necessary, a user can activate the automatic switching off the display. At the cell phone being placed “at the coverage area” the computer gets unlocked automatically without requiring your interference. The coverage area is set by the user. You can also set a number of other parameters.
The product includes a client application and a special Bluetooth-stack. The app does not require changing your phone's settings and makes it possible to use not only devices running under Windows Mobile, but also any other cell phones supporting Bluetooth.
In the nearest future the developers from Phoenix Technologies promise to implement Windows 7 support and also release a separate application for Macintosh OS X.
