Resident Evil/Biohazard: origin of the double name
2nd May 2009
It is no secret that Capcom uses two names for its legendary series of Resident Evil. The first name is used in United States and Europe, while in Japan the game is called Biohazard. Recently, a Capcom representative, Chris Kramer, explained to GamesRadar, why the company decided to choose this very marketing policy.
As it turned out, in 1994, when Capcom was actively promoting their child in USA, they failed to register it under the Biohazard trademark there. The point is that to that time there already were several DOS-games of the same name. So, the company decided to hold a competition for the best new name of their project. The winner became, as you can understand, the name of “Resident Evil”, which perfectly reflected the plot of the first part of the horror-series.
