SP3 for WinXP brings problems
26th May 2008
Windows XP users complain that the third service pack for the operating system creates many problems.
SP3 for Windows XP went on sale last month. Microsoft was about to start distributing the service pack via Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center two weeks later, but the pack turned out to have some problems. As it turned out, the service pack contained errors, leading to incompatibility with the product Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS). As a result, Microsoft had to postpone distributing the service pack.
In the beginning of May SP3 for Windows XP finally got into the Windows Update system, and immediately thereafter Microsoft began receiving complaints that the update provokes many problems. Users, among other things, pointed out difficulties of dealing with external hard drives, unexpected rebooting. In some cases, after installing the service pack, users could not even boot the operating system.
ComputerWorld reports that problems after installing the third service pack for Windows XP most often arise on computers equipped with AMD processors. Moreover, the problems may occur under machines equipped with motherboard Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe.
Microsoft Corporation does not give any comments so far.
We should notice that the main changes in SP3 for Windows XP, as a rule, relate to security.
