7th June 2006
Publication Wall Street Journal reported the fact that Microsoft and Adobe, possibly, soon will be encountered in the law court. The problem, which the companies in no way can solve peacefully, concerns packet Office 2007 and, in particular, its support of PDF format. Despite the fact that Adobe does not give official commentaries, it is known that the company is very concerned by the fact that Microsoft can use its monopoly in order to take away in Adobe users. It was originally assumed that users of Word, Excel and PowerPoint can save documents in PDF format. This option was announced as one of the foremost novelties of Office 2007. However, if this was made, in the majority of Adobe users would be eliminated the need of using the Acrobat program, that, certainly, would affect its sales. Adobe wants so that the support of PDF would be represented in MS Office in the form of additional function, for which must be collected separate fee. As analysts speak, solution Microsoft about the addition of support PDF to the office packets can strike on Adobe immediately in two directions: first, it was assumed that in the office packet that will be proposed free of charge, for which Adobe requests money, and in the second place, most likely, Microsoft will not miss such chance to widely proclaim its own format - alternative PDF, which is called Metro. However, work with the latter it will be more convenient. Microsoft corporation reported that now, after Adobe complaints , when the threat of judicial trial was overhanging above the companies, it most likely will remove support of PDF from Office 2007. It is interesting that Adobe allows to use free of charge specification PDF to other companies. For example, in the operating system Mac OS X there is a built-in support for creation and reading PDF files.
