Google Docs supports DOCX and XLSX
21st June 2009
The online Google service now supports DOCX and XLSX, which are the formats used by default when saving documents in Microsoft Office 2007. It is rather queer that so far it was impossible to open such documents in Google Docs, despite the fact that they can be viewed by Gmail and HTML-viewer when searching.
So far, however the service does not support PPTX files, created in PowerPoint 2007. To work with such files in Google Docs one needs to convert into a supported format, in doing so, losing some formatting elements, themes, and effects.
