In independent testing of antiviruses little known products have won The specialist on computer security Andreas Clementy, who is the founder of the site AV Comparatives, has held the next comparative testing of antivuruses.
According to ArsTechnica, this time Clementy estimated the effective work of antiviruses when identifying still unknown malware. For testing seventeen products were selected, including antivirus solutions from Microsoft, Symantec, MCAfee, AVG and “Kaspersky Lab”.
During the test Clementy has used antiviruses with databases from February 2 without installed updates. For testing the capabilities of the selected products a set of viruses has been used: malicious scripts, Trojans and spy modules, which were detected in the period from February 2 till May 2.
The best result, according to testing, showed little-disturted antivirus Avira, which caught 71% of unknown malware. The second place with showing of 68% a product NOD32 from Eset Company has won. More famous antiviruses from Symantec and MCAfee could “catch” only 24% of chosen for testing malicious modules. The product Microsoft OneCare could correctly identify 18% of unknown malicious code. Not too well result was shown by antiviruses from “Kaspersky Lab” and eScan, which detected only 9% of malware. The last place with the showing of 8% AVG package has taken.
It is noteworthy that during the test, which was hold by the site AV Comparatives in March of this year, the last place was taken by widely advertised complex system of security Microsoft Live Onecare. Admittedly, then before the experiment Klementy had updated antiviruses and adjusted optimal settings of the operation of the packages. As a result the first place with the showing of 99,45% antivirus package Anti-Virus Kit from G Data Security Software has won. As to Microsoft Live OneCare this product could identify only 82,40% of malicious code.
