PandaLabs has detected utility for managing bot-networks
19th June 2007
PandaLabs using one of the versions of the Trojan LdPinch, stealing the confidential information, could detect previously unknown utility, designed for control of bot-networks. The work window of the utility is divided into two parts. In the first a malefactor watches administered computers, in the second, he can give each of them certain commands. Among the possible actions are download and launch of files, blocking of certain URL and also download files from the computer to FTP-servers.
“This option means that a hacker can actually download to computers all kinds of malicious software. LdPinch version of the Trojan, which is stealing confidential information, has put us on track of this utility. During the study of the server, which the stolen data were routed, we found that on this computer the above described utility also was located. We suspect even that this Trojan was installed through this malicious application”, - said Luis Corrons, the technical director of PandaLabs. Today bot-networks become extremely popular, changing into a profitable business. The market for rental of infected computers is developing already. The protection of your computer from becoming a participant of bot-networks still requires minimum efforts: install updates of your antivirus in proper time and don`t open files and documents received from unknown sources.
