Symbian will support multi-processor platforms
29th June 2009
Developers of the Symbian OS for mobile phones announced the successful testing of a new version of OS supporting multi-core and multi-processor hardware platforms.
In addition to SMP (Symmetric MultiProcessor), which provides re-allocation of load to 2 and more cores, the new version of Symbian OS with open source code provides a lot of other innovations. In particular, devices based on Nokia S60 will be able to record and play HD video of the standard 1080p, play music for 100 hours after just one charging. Resolution of supported cameras may reach up to 18 mega pixels.
The new platform also supports displaying to TV via the port HDMI, hardware accelerating 3D graphics and full-functional work with 2 WVGA displays (960x854 pixels).
