VirtualDub 1.8.1: fast linear video editing and re-encoding
29th June 2008
The independent developer Avery Lee has released another stable version of its popular utility to capture and processing video at 32 - bit versions of Windows, called VirtualDub 1.8.1.
The major differences between the new version and the old one is the support of simultaneous processing material on several machines, as well as the possibility of launching video compression in a separate stream for systems with multiple cores.
The utility VirtualDub works fine under all 32 - bit versions of Windows, including 95/98/ME/NT4/2000 and XP. This utility is distributed under the terms of licence GNU General Public License (GPL). This utility has not a huge toolset of video editing, as in Adobe Premiere, but there are powerful features for linear operations with video; re-encoding, imposition of filters, etc.
Among other features of VirtualDub 1.8.1 there is the accurate setting frame frequency, optimized access to hard drive, creating files in AVI2 (OpenDML) larger than 2 gigabytes, as well as the possibility of splitting recording into several files to overcome the limitations of file system FAT32 for a maximum file size equal to 4 GB. In addition, the package VirtualDub 1.8.1 contains built-in decoders for MPEG-1 and Motion-JPEG, an extensive set of filters, and also allows removing fragments of video without re-encoding remaining frames.
