Warren Spector: “Games do shorten!”
29th June 2008
Speaking to an audience gathered at Gaming Education Summit in Dallas, Deus Ex creator, Warren Spector said that long games are gradually disappearing from stores. He was confident that the growing budgets and the desire of developers to make their projects more memorable forces them to abandon creating epic products, promising more than 100 hours of gameplay. It turns out that anyway most of the buyers do not reach final levels and sticks somewhere in the middle.
In his speech he also noted that in the segment of independent games professionals need to put a lot of effort to make their creations different from most competitors. Otherwise they will simply become outsiders.
