What netbooks are worth Windows 7
18th June 2009
Microsoft named the optimal characteristics of a netbook, which would perfectly match Windows 7 Starter Edition and Home Basic. Screen diagonal of this “perfect device” should not exceed 10.2 inches. The maximum amount of memory for such computer is equal to one terabyte; HDD capacity - 250 gigabytes. If this netbook has a SSD-drive, it should not exceed 64 gigabytes. Processor: one-core chip with no more than two gigahertz clock speed. The maximum allowed power consumption of the processor is 15 watts.
At the moment, the vast majority of netbooks manufacturers pre-install Windows XP on their products. Microsoft, by the way, also limits the maximum technical specifications of these computers.
Microsoft began developing Windows 7 in 2000 (it was named Blackcomb then and was planned to be released in 2005). For the first time it was publicly demonstrated on Oct 28, 2008. The release of this OS is scheduled for the end of the year. Editions of Starter and Home Basic are the cheapest versions of Windows 7 with reduced functionality.
