Wolfram Alpha: generating answers for ordinary questions
12th June 2009
Finally, they launched a long-expected service of Wolfram Alpha, which is capable of computing answers to questions asked in ordinary language. Wolfram Alpha has been being developed by over a hundred people. The author of the project is Stephen Wolfram, author of one of the most popular applications of computer algebra, Mathematica.
Wolfram Alpha differs from conventional search engines by the fact that instead of a list of links to millions of web pages this app gives the only one answer, computed by this program by its own. For example, at the query obama`s height, this universal app gives the following response: “2 meter” with the explanation “1.2 of the average human height”.
