AVG Technologies restrained its “references scanner”
19th July 2008
AVG Technologies Company has released a patch for the new version of free anti-virus product that has caused a small scandal, expanded on open spaces of the global network. The reason for discontent of web-masters and analysts became the component of LinkScanner pack, or rather its single feature called SearchShield, which checks the reliability of references in the list, generated by search mechanism. Visiting each site, presented in the list, the program pretends to be the ordinary visitor of the resource. In doing so, taking into account the exorbitant popularity of free anti-virus (more than 5 million downloaded copies), the emergency of so many non-existent users in the site has led almost to catastrophe for some web-sites. Many popular resources nearly drowned in flows of false traffic, and web-analysts had the site attendance statistics inconsistent with the reality. The manufacturers proposed several available ways of problem solution, but the Internet-community expected special patch, which was at last released. The manufacturer hopes that within the next fortnight patch will be downloaded and installed by the majority of antivirus users. Similar upgrade for commercial version of AVG is available for downloading this week already.
