Adobe adds high-quality video to Flash Player
23rd August 2007
Adobe Systems announced the intention of adding to flash clips high quality video. In the coming days, the company will release a beta version of Flash Player code-named Moviestar, which will be added with support of the H.264 video compression standard to achieve high video compression while maintaining high quality images. This standard is used by Apple in its commercials for iPod, and also by broadcasting HDTV. Updated Flash Player will be optimized under better use of computer hardware, in particular the dual core processors.
In addition to the built-in video codec, the new Flash Player will offer audio decoder for audio HE-AAC 2, an effective audio compression standard, a component of MPEG 4. All changes and additions will be available in the future as updates for Flash Player 9. According to Adobe, the H.264 standard will lead to spreading high quality video content in the Internet. H.264 is being increasingly used by manufacturers and suppliers of media content, so Adobe decided to add the standard in Flash Player in this very period.
