Dr.Web ignores VirusBulletin100 testing
11th August 2008
The August testing anti-virus products VirusBulletin100, held by one of the most authoritative British journals, for the first time in its history passed without the participation of Russian antivirus Dr.Web.
Russian Dr.Web refused to participate in the August testing of anti-virus programs VirusBulletin100. This is the first case of Russian anti-virus manufacturer`s refuse to take part in the test held by the British magazine.
The essence of the VB100 testing is in the check by antivirus module of collections of “wild viruses” (Wildlist) and “clean files” (Clean Sets). Anti-viruses, which do not miss a single copy from the first list and allow all files from the second list, receives an award of VB100%.
However, according to independent analysts, in recent times, this technique is outdated and can not be considered adequate for determining the quality of the antivirus product.
In addition to testing for Wildlist, specialists of VirusBulletin also display results of testing on their own collection of viruses (columns of Worms, File inspectors, Polimorphic and Trojans), which do not affect final results of the testing. According to Ivan Stoghov, a russian expert, anti-virus vendors refuse to take part in the testing Virus Bulletin, because they find it inappropriate to reality. These “neglecting” of Trend Micro and Dr.Web and Panda Antivirus is nothing else but an attempt to show VB100`s irrelevancy in its present condition.
