IBM has released Lotus Notes / Domino 8
23rd August 2007
As it was announced, the other day IBM released the eighth versions of the products Lotus Notes and Domino. The distinguishing feature of the new generation of IBM server solutions is the desire to create a client interface, most integrated with most common software platforms. For example, Notes 8 was created using the same programming model as in Lotus Expeditor 6.1.1, which, in its turn, is based on open standards Eclipse.org.
Although IBM is not meant to put aside Microsoft Outlook, the company claims that the new version (developed within two years), will be a success among the current users of this communication platform. Lotus Notes / Domino 8 will offer users a lot of new features and capabilities, such as its own set of office applications that support the format OpenDocument Format (ODF), Microsoft Office and IBM Lotus SmartSuite with a built-in export to PDF. Office tools have become one of the three main lines of developing Lotus Notes / Domino 8. Other priority directions became improved compatibility and expandability through plug-ins and third-party applications.
Now IBM has released only the English version of the platform, until April 2, 2008, it will be translated into 27 languages.
