Lol is this You? The New Spam Spreading Through Facebook Chat
31st August 2010
Some good things have some negative things associated with them as well and this is the case with Facebook. Despite the fact that it's a great source in connecting people, there are some issues, which get fixed and then a new one pops out.
Now recently this Friday afternoon, Facebook was hit by another spam. The users while chatting get messages from their friends containing malicious links. According to one of the victims, the message caption says something like "Lol is this you?" and contains a link as well, that apparently looks like a link to some video on Facebook. When he opened the link, it took him to another web page with a "404-Page Not Found" error message and as a result the spam got sent to one of his friends. The same issue has been reported by Twitter as well, but for now the outbreak seems to be a minor one.
Every other day something new like this comes up, so these social networking sites need to have some long term precautionary measures taken, to save their users from such kinds of nonsense stuff.
