Microsoft postpones release of Windows Server 2008
31st August 2007
Microsoft has once again postponed the date of releasing its new server operating system, Windows Server 2008.
Softwareplatform Windows Server 2008 has been being tested since 2005. The new OS has an interface based on the command line PowerShell, improved firewall and the console Server Manager with enhanced features of remote administration. The software platform supports virtualization technologies and multi-core processors.
In July, Microsoft announced intention to formally introduce Windows Server 2008 at a special event on February 27 next year. SQL Server 2008 database and development environment Visual Studio 2008 were supposed to be introduced simultaneously.
However, now, according to PC World, Microsoft is planning to productionize Windows Server 2008 in the period between January 1 and March 31 next year. This means that the presentation scheduled for February next year, may not take place. Moreover, it is possible that Microsoft will have nothing to show at the scheduled event. The matter is that the release of SQL Server 2008 has already been delayed on the second quarter of 2008, while Visual Studio 2008 is planned to be released in the end this year.
The recurrent delay of Windows Server 2008` release is explained in Microsoft by the lack of time needed for development and testing of the product.
