The company RealNetworks has announced a new version of its multimedia RealPlayer for
non-expensive notebooks and consoles based on the new processor Intel Atom.
Now OEM-manufacturers will be able to supply their device with this player without extra effort and costs. The new RealPlayer supports playback of virtually all common multimedia formats, including RealMedia, Windows Media, MP3, MPEG4, H.264, AAC, AAC +, VC-1 and Ogg.
The technology RealPlayer is meant to be used in devices running under operating system based on the programs Moblin (Mobile & Internet Linux Project).
The program set Moblin is advertised by Intel as the base of the software platform for all kinds of hardware solutions based on the processors Intel Atom. In turn, the technology RealPlayer allows playing multimedia content on these devices with a minimum power consumption and maximum economical use of computational resources. In addition, the RealPlayer technology can be used both as an
independent player, and content for playback in browser’s windows.
The new RealPlayer is developed using the Real Helix DNA platform, so its source codes are available to developers under a special license for members of Helix Community.
Source codes of RealPlayer are integrated with the common base of source codes published on the site Moblin.org.
