Role In Afghanistan Would Be Given To Unmanned K-Max Helicopter
31st August 2010
The development is in the process of an unmanned helicopter. This helicopter is being designed for the US military and is going to be capable of lifting supplies and equipments to the troops, which are fighting war against terrorism in Afghanistan. This helicopter, which is adapted by defense company called Lockheed Martin is named as the Kaman K-Max.
It is going to fly without pilot and will be able to carry up to 6,000lbs weight of cargo, which is almost more than empty weight of this helicopter. The primary usage of this aircraft would be the transportation of equipments to the troops, which are fulfilling their duties at Forward Operating Bases on the frontline. This aircraft would help in reducing the loss to the greatest extent, as there will be no need of sending convoys of large vehicles on the roads for supplying cargo to the troops, which used to be attacked by improvised explosive devices.
The best part of this aircraft is that it can also be flown in those areas, which are into under-fire. An operator, sitting on the ground can control the helicopter by using a laptop. He just needs to enter the flight plan including the route and destination.
