Symantec 92 Percent Of Emails Are Spam17th August 2010
The spam is on the rise and in the month of July 2010, 92 percent of all of the email messages were spam, which has gone up from 89 percent which was recorded one year ago according to the latest study of spam and phishing trends by Symantec. Alarmingly, a new type of the attack has also been discovered by Symantec which spoofs the live chat feature of the website of ecommerce which targets the login ID as well as the password of any person for the legitimate e-commerce site. It has been said by Symantec that the phishing web site involves bogus sort of chat sessions for the sake of helping the page to look more authentic and for the sake of trying to give an impression to the customers that this phishing web site was interactive.
However, on the good news front, the amount of the spam which is containing the phishing attack declined from June to the month of July this year by a 5 percent. Similarly, the number of many of the different types of the phishing attacks on the whole has been declining. The numbers of the unique web sites that are for phishing have also decreased by 60 percent from the month of June to July.
