The Gulf Stream Could Be Tapped By Swarms Of Marine Turbines
31st August 2010
According to the recent reports, an engineer at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in US has been working on the project, which is about the designing of a series of turbines. He is into the finalizing stage of this project. He believes that the turbines would be helpful, in terms of producing high amount of energy from the water of Gulf Stream, which flows deep in the Atlantic Ocean.
The estimation of amount of energy, which would be produced by making use of underwater stream, has shown that it roughly contains more than 21,000 times energy capacity, as compared to the Niagara Falls and the estimations have shown that it would help in fulfilling 1/3 of the energy needs of entire US. Professor White has said that with the help of hydrokinetic power, obtained from Gulf Stream, millions of households would be powered across Florida.
On the contrary, it is not as easy to be done as it is said. It is not easy to harness that energy, as this kind of energy can only be produced by going 1,200m below the surface of this ocean. The condition under water keeps on changing and it makes things difficult.
