Microsoft speaks out on Windows 7 taskbar

30th September 2008

Microsoft is extremely reluctant to share any information about the next version of their operating system, preferring to measure out information in small portions.
Last week in the developers blog information was published on the new taskbar, which will be offered to Windows 7 users. The large-sized post tells the history and evolution of this interface element, as well as touches the problems of functionality of individual taskbar components. A separate item is dedicated to statistics of using different taskbar settings.
Having read the text, one can conclude that Windows 7 users will be able to reorder objects on the taskbar and “stretch†in out to a few monitors, as well as to gain more control over the content of the system tray. Also, it is possible that each application before deployment in the tray will align this action with the user. By the way, selected users will be able to see the early version of Windows 7 pretty soon. Copies of the new OS will be distributed among visitors of the Professional Developer Conference (held in Los Angeles at the end of next month) and the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (held at the same place in early November). Unfortunately, participation in these events is not at all cheap. The cost of registration at the conferences ranges from several hundred to several thousand dollars.
