New beta version of Debian Live 5.0
8th September 2008
The first beta of the product Debian Live 5.0 has come out, a unique distribution kit of the Linux-compatible operating system Lenny, which does not require installation to HDD and can be executed directly from the boot disk.
The beta version differs from the final release by its slightly cut-down functionality. There are images for normal CD, because of the limited volume of which, the proposed distribution lacks Gnome and KDE desktops. However, the beta includes Xfce desktop environment and the package Live Magic. Subsequent DVD-releases will include a more complete set of software.
The pre-release version of the software will be available this month already, however, the producers are going to release at least another one “beta” before it. According to the developer Daniel Baumann, the number of betas will directly depend on the testers activity.
