Public beta of Skyfire mobile browser
30th September 2008
The Californian startups Skyfire, the manufacturer of the mobile web-browser of the same name, invited owners of Windows Mobile devices to participate in the beta testing of a new version of their product.
The browser, which is, according to developers, is a main competitor to new Opera Mobile, has been updated to version 0.8. One of the most curious innovations has become an interface element called SuperBar, combining the functionality of a search and address bars. The auto-filling feature will offer a user suitable options to complete a request when typing.
Unfortunately, unlike Opera Mobile 9.5, Skyfire has not yet learned to remember history of visited URL-addresses.
There is also an improved mechanism of playing streaming video. Version 0.8 as well provides an opportunity for full-size viewing, as well as better synchronization of sound and image. Users also have the opportunity to download images and documents in PDF; to send text parts as sms; to type directly in the browser. It is also possible to install Skyfire by default.
