Adobe confirms vulnerability in PDF
17th October 2007
Almost a month after a British researcher Petko D. Petkov reported of the vulnerability in PDF, the company Adobe confirmed its existence and proposed solution.
The solution is just an instruction on editing the system registry, but the full patch is promised to come out in the end of the month. The vulnerability concerns the programs Adobe Reader, Acrobat Standard, Acrobat Professional, Elements 8.1 and earlier versions, as well as Acrobat 3D. The problem occurs only when working under Windows XP, while Vista users have nothing to worry about.
Those users who do not dare to modify the registry, are recommended not to open unknown PDF files in Internet Explorer until the update is released.
