AOL Is Working Hard On Internet Content Platform
26th October 2009
Time Warner's AOL Internet unit is now busy in making new strategy that is focusing on content creation, which represents a shift in focus as said by AOL's CEO Tim Armstrong this Thursday. He further said on the stage at Web 2.0 Summit held in San Francisco that they are focusing on growing a large platform based on content and the monetization of that content.
Armstrong was not willing give more specific details and said that they contain a secret sauce which they are not yet ready to announce and this that they have been working over something for last three months that is a fairly substantial shift on the technology.
In the previous six months, AOL has been working on growing its staff of journalists too from a number of 500 to 3,000 workers, as it is scaling up the reach of on-going project.
He also said that AOL is now about to get ready for its imminent separation from the parent company. Time Warner has announced its concrete plans to get rid of the struggling Internet unit in May by spinning it as a company that is publicly traded.
Hence, it is a key for AOL in showing the signs of turnaround, to attract interests from the investors. During the first quarter, AOL has seen its ad revenue to shrink 20 percent from year-on-year.
