Asustek Computer Teams Up With Nvidia Graphics Processor On The 1.1 Teraflop Supercomputer

Asustek Computer has unveiled the first supercomputer by them on this Monday, which is desktop computer sized ESC 1000 that uses the Nvidia graphics processors to reach the speeds of up to 1.1 teraflops.
One teraflop is equivalent to 1 trillion flops, which is a measure of computing the speed of the computers. Computers that are able to perform at this high speed can be used in a number of ways, and includes scientific research, the manipulation of images, engineering modeling or for the medical purposes too.
Asustek's ESC 1000 has a 3.33GHz Intel LGA1366 Xeon W3580 microprocessor which is designed for servers, with 960 graphics processing cores which are from Nvidia inside the three Tesla c1060 Computing Processors and also one Quadro FX5800., as according in the spec sheet given by Asustek. The c1060 is a PCI card of dual slot without any graphic ports on the back side.
Nvidia has been promoting its graphics cores as alternative to the microprocessors to build the more speedy computers requiring less electricity.
The ESC 1000 is for 64-bit computing and has a 24GB of double data rate of the third generation and 1333MHz DRAM. Also the chassis on this supercomputer is measured to be 445 millimeters by 217.5 mm by 545 mm.
The ESC 1000 has a hard drive of 500GB SATA II which is on board and has a power supply for 1100 watts.
