AT&T Executive Says That Iphone's Exclusivity In The U.S. Is Ending
23rd October 2009
Ralph de la Vega, AT&T Mobility CEO, greatly implied that the carrier's exclusive deal to sell out the iPhones in the U.S.A is coming to an end, without giving any details in the conference call with the analysts.
De la Vega further said that the iPhone is a good source for new subscribers, but it is only a part of smartphone portfolio which gives out good results, in an answer to the questions that what are the plans of AT&T for the exclusive deal to come to an end as has been rumored. De la Vega said that they have a legacy of a great portfolio, which will continue after the iPhones are no longer exclusive for them. He also said that the iPhone had been a good source of new gross for them and the new subscribers from iPhone in the third quarter were only one-third of the total subscribers from all of the devices.
AT&T might be losing the exclusivity of the iPhone deal, which it had in the U.S. for more than 2 years, to its competitor Verizon Wireless. Many people believe that the deal will expire in the mid of year 2010.
De la Vega also said that AT&T is now working, to build Android phones that will be working best on AT&T network, with device manufacturers. These are terrific devices and are much better on the AT&T network as compared to any other network.
