BitTorrent is moving from piracy to broadcasting streamlined video
17th October 2007
The developers of the service BitTorrent continue working on improving their image. Six years after the creation of the most popular file-exchange network, the company BitTorrent introduced a new service that will ensure transferring legal videos-content via Internet.
The new service, which was named BitTorrent DNA, already has the first customer. This is the company Brightcove, which will use it to broadcast television programs via the Internet. Brightcove distributes teleprograms of the channels, which are owned by such popular companies as BS Corp, Fox Entertainment Group, MTV Networks and the New York Times Co.
In addition to broadcasting streamlined video, BitTorrent DNA will also be used to transfer files and downloading conventional video files. The service works on the same system as the network BitTorrent, i.e. when one user downloads and views some file, BitTorrent DNA sends requests to other PCs in the search of this file.
