Cisco Is Buying Scansafe For An Amount Of $183 Million

29th October 2009

Cisco Systems will be buying the privately held Web security company named ScanSafe for an amount of about $183 million, which is a move that will be intensifying the battle with the security giants such as Symantec Corp and McAfee Inc.

ScanSafe sells out the Web based services, which protects the business computer networks and also the PCs from hackers that can save companies from the cost of buying and then installing the software on their very own equipment.

Two of the top security software companies, namely Symantec and McAfee, have already sold such of these products that are known as the cloud services and the sales of these clouds are growing at a very faster clip as compared to the traditional software.

Cisco has announced this deal on Tuesday, by saying that it expects the transactions to close in the fiscal second quarter that would be ending in the month of January 2010.

An amount of $183 million price tag, which includes cash and the retention based incentives too as said by Cisco.

The above mentioned deal can help Cisco to expand the company's security portfolio that includes emails as well as the Web security software company IronPort that it bought in during the year 2007.
