DAVID 2.1 : 3D scanning
24th October 2008
A new version of DAVID has come out, a free program that allows performing 3D scanning of objects and converting the result obtained into a model that can be imported into 3D-editors.
Work with the program requires a connected to PC camera and a laser pointer. The object should be set in the corner of the room in front of the two planes to be placed at the angle of 90 degrees towards each other. Then you need to take a laser, turn on the camera, point the laser to the object and begin moving the it over the object. In doing so, the program will automatically calculate 3D-coordinates of the scanned surface.
Immediately after scanning, the received 3D-model can be viewed in an integrated OpenGL-viewer. And the result can be saved in the OBJ format and used for work with different 3D-editors. There is also a commercial version of DAVID Proessional Edition, which is designed for seamless combining several objects, which were made from different sides.
The latest version adds new tools to manage the program`s settings, improves tools to calibrate the camera, updates language modules and fixes bugs.
