Gigabit Wi-Fi
30th October 2008
The company Quantenna Communications has developed a chipset, which would increase the speed of Wi-Fi networks up to one gigabit per second, reports Ars Technica.
It is expected that mass production of the chipset will begin in 2009.
Chipsets Quantenna are built on the 4x4 MIMO scheme. They contain four antennas and four receivers. This allowed to significantly increase the capacity of wireless networks.
Overall, it was announced three chipsets: QHS450, QHS600 and QHS1000. QHS450 runs at 2.4 gigahertz, QHS600 at five gigahertz, respectively. QHS1000 is a 2-standard solution and can operate at the frequency of both 2.4, and 5 gigahertz.
These chipsets are expected to significantly increase the bandwidth of, e.g., a home Wi-Fi network. This will allow in the streaming mode via wireless network to transmit HD-content from the Internet to TV.
QHS450 and QHS600 will cost $ 20, while QHS1000 will be twice more expensive.
