Linux beats Windows XP by returns
16th October 2008
The company MSI, a manufacturer of net-books MSI Wind, reports that buyers of portable devices based on the Intel Atom processor can not boast close “friendship” with the operating system Linux.
Each Wind net-book comes with a pre-installed Windows XP or Linux, which allows performing a comparative analysis on popularity of Each of these operating systems. The research results are a revelation for devotees of the popular open platform. According to data collected, Linux net-books are returned to the seller four times more frequently than versions running under Windows XP.
Buyers willingly pay $300-400 per laptop computer, but very few of them clearly realize what they investing their money in. After a brief introduction to the new platform, the user suddenly understands that this is not an operating system, he is accustomed to. Most consumers can not boast too much curiosity and return the buying, not wishing to spend time mastering the new OS. Some experts also believe that the manufacturers made a mistake when choosing the distribution kit. The system SUSE Linux installed on Wind computers can hardly be considered an ideal choice for beginners.
Nevertheless, the MSI is unlikely to have reasons for complains. Enthusiastically adopted by press and consumers, the net-books are selling really well. Each month, the company sells from 150000 to 250000 copies. MSI is also planning to expand the product line and is going to offer business users a new model of Wind with a more austere and practical design.
