Novell, Mandriva and Turbolinux join the project Moblin
31st October 2008
Immediately three prominent manufacturers of Linux-distributions announced their joining to the Linux-project Intel Moblin.
Moblin is an Intel project aimed to create software in the basis of the operating system GNU/Linux for such mobile devices as net-books (based on the Intel Atom) and mobile Internet devices (MID).
The company Novell announced its intention to contribute to such components of Moblin, as a composite desktop manager and an abstract multimedia layer. In general, the company will do what it is used to do but just in some new context.
Other Linux-suppliers, Mandriva and Turbolinux, said that their previously announced joint initiative Manbo Labs is also going to join Moblin. Now Manbo Labs in addition to their major developments will create a separate distribution for net-books. This would require paying particular attention to such things as a long time battery power, quick load time, small memory consumption.
The joint product of the companies Mandriva and Turbolinux is scheduled for the period from the fourth quarter of this year till the first quarter of 2009.
