Opera developed a new type search engine
29th October 2008
The company Opera Software is developing a search engine indexing sites structure.
It`s called Metadata Analysis and Mining Application (MAMA). MAMA should make the Internet more standardized, as well as help developers to find examples of different solutions and see trends in the development of the net. This was reported in the blog of Opera developers.
Using MAMA one can get answers to those questions normal searches can not answer to. For example, this search engine is capable of finding pages containing more than a hundred links, or indicating which blocks the average resource consists of.
In addition, using MAMA you can see how many sites use CSS or Flash, how many characters a Web page contains. According to MAMA data, currently CSS is used by 80.4 % of sites, Flash - by 33,5 %, while an average web page is made up of 16.5 thousand characters.
Currently, the search engine MAMA indexes 3.5 million pages. Opera has been being developing MAMA for four years already. The final release date is not called so far, but the project is anticipated to come out in the first half of next year.
