Process Monitor 1.23: managing the processes and the registry
3rd October 2007
A new version of the Process Monitor has been released, which combines features of the known utilities Filemon and Regmon, which had been previously issued by Sysinternals. Recall, that this company had been purchased by Microsoft.
Process Monitor monitors the system and shows all the processes going on in real time. By means of the program, you can see how Windows works, how applications are using files and DLL and eliminate errors in the system files. Also, the program can display all changes to files, report of their removal or opening.
Process Monitor includes tools to monitor the status of the registry. It shows which applications call the registry and, in particular, what keys, which data they read or try to record. The key feature of this program is that it not only detects values and keys that have been changed, but also demonstrates what changes were made to them.
The latest version adds the switcher HookRegistry for work under Windows Vista, and a new option WaitForIdle.
