Protection tools against Internet threats do not pass a regular test again

The Danish company Secunia found that the majority of modern means of protection against Internet threats can not effectively detect attempts PC.
Testing of a dozen popular products from leading manufacturers proved that a clear majority of solutions detect malware only after its penetration into the hard drive of PC. After the identification and successful elimination of the dangerous code the gap through which it got in the system remains open.
For the tests Secunia proposed its own set of malicious programs that exploit known vulnerabilities. The prepared set of exploits included 144 dangerous files disguised as innocuous multimedia and text documents as well as 156 fragments of malicious code embedded in web-pages.
The absolute winner in this specific contest was Symantec, although the results demonstrated by the package Internet Security Suite 2009 was far from being perfect. The security system managed to find 64 out of 300 threats or 21.33% of the total set. Anyway, the rest of competitorsâ€™ way of coping with the task leaves much to be desired at all. BitDefender Internet Security Suite 2009 (build 12.0.10) took the second place, having recognized only 2.33% (!) of exploits. The same result was shown by the package Internet Security 2008 from Trend Micro. The solution McAfeeâ€™s Internet Security Suite 2009 occupied the third place with its shabby 2%.
