Qualcomm Innovation Center, which is the wholly owned subsidiary, has said that it currently consists of those software engineers who are working on the optimization of the hardware, the mobile operating systems of the open source and also its applications.

The engineers will be working on the softwares including Linux and the Webkit, and also some of the operating systems that include the Symbian, Android and the Chrome too as was said by the company.

In opening up a new group, the Qualcomm follows clear trends in the mobile industry. According to one recent report which was from the Juniper Research it has said that sixty percent of the Smartphone market is using such an operating system which is open source. As the Smartphone continue making up a growing part of the mobile phone market, the sales of the Smartphone which are open source are expected to be growing better. Those Smartphone which are shipped with the open source OS will be increasing from 106 million to 223 million, from the year 2009 to the year 2014 as said by Juniper.
