Sony created bendable color OLED-display
16th October 2008
The company Sony presented a prototype of the bendable display, developed in close cooperation with German scientists from Max Planck Institute.
The transparent display, created on the basis of organic LED, consumes minimum power and allows output of color images, which can be clearly seen from all angles. The display does not need additional lighting, while its response time is 10 times higher than that of standard liquid crystal displays, which guarantees higher definition of the moving image. The display can be bent, without distorting image displayed. And its transparency allows imposing multiple layers on top of each other for implementing various three-dimensional effects.
Sony has been developing OLED-displays since 2006, however, all previous models implied limitation on the size and resolution supported, which hindered their production startup.
Originally, the display is meant to be used in TV set manufacturing, but in the future this range may be well expanded.
