Thunderbird 3.0: third alpha version of the mail client
29th October 2008
The department of Mozilla Messaging, responsible for developing a new version of the e-mail client Thunderbird, announced the third alpha version of the program.
The new version, code-named Shredder is purely experimental and is not intended for mass user. It has a lot of “cosmetic” improvements, and also a large number of new features. A complete list of changes in the program exceeds 280 items.
Most of the changes touched performance and the program interface. The introduction of the e-mail protocol IMAP allows you to effectively use the application offline. The new preview window of reading letters now has several contextual buttons allowing you to reply, forward or delete the message.
One of the programs designers wrote in his blog that attempts are being made to introduce a system of bookmarks, as in modern browsers, which will support restoring sessions. He also pointed out the current ideas on improving the status line and support of auto-filling in the subject field.
Alpha version of the client is available on the site of the developer.
