TIFF iFilter for SharePoint: text search in documents scans

The company Captaris has announced a new product called TIFF iFilter, to expand the functionality of the platform Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007.
The manufacturer believes advantages of TIFF iFilter will be first appreciated by organizations that have to deal with a large number of paper documents, including insurance companies, state, financial institutions and others. The solution iFilter scans a document using the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology and saves a snapshot on the server SharePoint along with all metadata. The resulting file can be easily detected by means of the standard SharePoint search tools. Employees of client companies also will be able to use images of documents in TIFF in their search requests.
IFilter components can be useÐ² by Microsoft Indexing Service and other search engines based on the Microsoft Search technology (such as SharePoint Portal Server, Windows SharePoint Services, Exchange Full Text Search and SQL Server FTS).
The product supports platforms Windows Server 2003 and 2008 and runs under 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows, SharePoint Server and SQL Server.
