Toshiba Corp. demonstrated a prototype of the quickly charging battery for laptops. The battery SCiB (Super Charge Ion Batteries) can be charged at 90 per cent of its capacity in just 10 minutes. The new battery can be re-charged 5-6 thousand times, while the existing analogues allow only about 500 charges.
The manufacturer says that the new generation batteries can also boast an exceptional security and do not explode at a physical impact, as it often happens with lithium-ion power sources. The thing is that SCiB batteries use material of high thermal resistance. In addition, protection against short circuits and overheating is provides by design peculiarities.
First experimental models of the SCiB battery, announced last year, were intended to be used in industrial equipment. The laptop version for the first time was shown at the Japanese exhibition of Ceatec. Unfortunately, Toshiba did not report anything about time of releasing the long-awaited battery.
