Trend Micro CEO Says That Hackers Are Hitting The AV Infrastructure
26th October 2009
An all too common scam these days is that a legitimate site pops up a window which looks like a real security warning. It asks you to click to fix as there's something wrong with the computer. After a few clicks, the victim would be paying out US$40 for some bogus kind of software, which is called the rogue antivirus.
Rogue antivirus scams have started to become a big problem in the recent months, but according to the Trend Micro Company's CEO Eva Chen, in general it is a part of a more sinister, and a very strategic attack on the antivirus industry. She asks that the criminals can easily fake any other application they want so why would they fake an AV?
According to Eva Chen, the CEO of Trend Micro Company, there are a lot of security problems today that are designed not only to steal the information from the victims, but also to undermine the credibility of bigger and popular companies like Trend Micro itself. One way the hackers would have done this it is by changing the way that how software is put together every time it attacks, it also forcing the AV vendors for bloating up their product with hundreds or more of new detection signatures.
